Workshops
Environmental Writing Series
At DePaul University’s Writing Center, I worked with my supervisor to create and lead the first Wriring Center Community Partnerships Team. Our goal was to engage new members of the campus and neighborhood community in writing-related events and foster collaboration between various groups. For one of our first projects, I developed and facilitated a two-part workshop in which we discussed genres of eco-writing, made mini-zines, learned about on-campus sustainability, and co-hosted with three different student groups and university offices.
In this series, I aimed to facilitate experimentation with different ways of writing in and about the natural environment. I worked with our co-hosts to include concepts from writing studies and ecology understandable to faculty, staff, and student attendees from a variety of academic fields.
EFECt Program Writing Series
As the Community Partnerships Leader at the DePaul University Writing Center, I created and maintained relationships with community organizations through educational events. In this capacity, I designed and co-facilitated two writing workshops for adult learners through DePaul’s Egan Office of Urban Education and Community Partnerships. This packet contains materials I prepared for one of the workshops, both of which focused on storytelling and agency in different writing genres.
Building on prior facilitation experience and principles of community education and asset-based teaching, I created this workshop to address the diverse experiences and goals of program participants. This piece highlights both my understanding of adult education settings and my experience in using Illustrator and Canva, two graphic design tools useful in web and document design.
